How did you get started running, walking, or racing? My dad has been a marathoner for many years. Growing up, he would take me and my brothers to run in all the local 5ks. It became a family bonding experience for us. And when I was 16, my dad and I ran my first marathon. We've run several races together since and are planning on doing the Marine Corps Marathon this year.
What is your favorite race and/or distance? 26.2!
What is the thing you love the most about running, walking, or racing? Firstly, how it lead me to my career of Physical Therapy! Running can be whatever you need it to be in any season of life - it can be a stress reliever, a motivator, a scientific inquiry, a way to connect with others, and many more! There is always more for me to learn and ways in which to challenge myself. It is so simple yet complex all at the same time.
Who is your biggest supporter or cheerleader? My husband David and my parents.
What is your spirit animal? Why? Horse. Because I like to run!! And because they have always been my favorite animal.
What is your life motto or words to live by? Progress, not perfect, is the goal.
List your three must have items when walking or running? New Balance shoes, Garmin, and Hero my running pup <3
If you could go on a walk or run with anyone who would it be and why? Eliud Kipchoge because he has such an amazing mental approach to running. That can be my biggest struggle with races, and I wish I could pick his brain. That, and he's likely the best marathoner of our time!
Your last run or walk was . . . in Virginia Beach!
Your last race . . . The Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach
If I wasn't running or walking I'd be . . . Reading and snuggling with my dog Hero and a big cup of coffee/tea
My favorite post-run, walk, or race meal is . . . Guapos! Give me all the chips and guacamole after a race!
What advice do you have for a new runner or walker? Make it FUN!! Let it take you to spots you'd otherwise not have visited around your area, run with friends, or jam out to your favorite songs. There's no "perfect" way or "key to success" when it comes to running or exercising - its so different for each individual. But I find that those who have the most fun stick with it longer and have better results!
